Lesson 2: Skin Diving Skills
Skin diving involves diving below the surface without scuba equipment, and is also referred to as free-diving or breath-hold diving. Seasoned divers often prefer this approach because there are no loud bubbles to scare timid fish away.
Your instructor will teach you basic skin diving skills to provide you with an opportunity to become comfortable in the water. These skills include water entries and exits, using your snorkel, using your fins, and surface dives.
Most skin diving skills are also used when scuba diving. However, they are easier to learn without the weight and bulk of scuba equipment. For this reason, your instructor will have you practice these skills while only wearing skin diving gear before you practice them with full scuba gear.
